2020 Summer Olympics

Multi-Sport Games

The 2020 Summer Olympics were held in Tokyo, Japan, but were postponed by a year to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the first postponement of a modern Olympics in peacetime, while retaining the 2020 name. The Games were held largely without spectators because of ongoing pandemic restrictions in Japan. American gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from several individual finals citing mental health concerns, drawing widespread attention to athlete wellbeing at elite competition.
