Federica Pellegrini is an Italian former competitive swimmer born August 5, 1988, in Mirano, Italy, who won Olympic gold in the 200 meter freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Games after taking silver in the event in 2004. She won six long course World Championship gold medals in the 200 meter freestyle plus four more across other events and relays, and in 2009 became the first woman to swim the 400 meter freestyle under four minutes, at one point holding the 200 meter freestyle world record. She was the only swimmer of either sex to win eight consecutive world championship medals in the same event and the first woman to reach five consecutive Olympic finals in one specialty, retiring from competition in 2021.
