Lee Chong Wei is a Malaysian former badminton player born October 21, 1982, in Bagan Serai, Perak, regarded as the most successful Malaysian Olympian in history. He held the world number one ranking for a record 349 weeks in total, including 199 consecutive weeks from August 2008 to June 2012, and won three Olympic silver medals in men's singles across three consecutive Games, in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Over a 19-year international career he won 69 titles and compiled a singles record of 711 wins against 134 losses, before retiring on June 13, 2019, after treatment for nasopharynx cancer left him unable to sustain high-intensity training.
