All-Ireland Senior Football Championship

Professional Leagues

The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is the premier inter-county competition in Gaelic football. County teams compete against each other and the winner is declared All-Ireland Champions, receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises it, and it has been contested every year except one since 1888, with the final played at Croke Park in Dublin. For most of its history it was played on a straight knockout basis, but the qualification procedures have changed several times in recent years. Qualification now runs through the four provincial championships of Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, the Tailteann Cup and the National Football League. Thirty-three teams currently take part, and the title has been won by 19 counties, with Kerry holding the record of 39 wins.
