Kevin Heffernan (1929 to 2013) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and later one of the game's most influential managers. A left corner-forward, he played for the Dublin county team from his debut in the 1948 championship until his retirement after the 1962 championship, winning one All-Ireland senior football title, four Leinster titles and three National League medals, and captaining Dublin to the 1958 All-Ireland win. At club level he had a long career with St Vincent's, collecting fifteen county football championship medals and six county hurling championship medals. As Dublin manager he revived the county side and steered it to three All-Ireland titles between 1974 and 1983. In 1974 he became the only non-player ever honoured as Texaco Footballer of the Year, and in 1984 he was named at left corner-forward on the GAA's Team of the Century, a place confirmed when the Team of the Millennium was chosen in 1999.
