Michael Murphy, born on 4 August 1989, is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a full forward for Glenswilly and for the Donegal county team, which he captained from December 2010 until his initial retirement from inter-county football in November 2022. With more than 500 points he is Donegal's all-time record scorer, and former Donegal players regard him as the county's greatest ever footballer. As captain he led Donegal to the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and was named man of the match in that final. His honours include two All Stars and three Ulster Senior Football Championship titles in his first four seasons as captain, and he captained the Ireland international rules team in 2013 and 2014. He declined offers from Australian rules football clubs to move abroad.
