1936 Summer Olympics

Multi-Sport Games

The 1936 Summer Olympics were held in Berlin, Germany, under the Nazi government, which used the Games as a propaganda platform despite international calls for a boycott over its racial policies. American sprinter and long jumper Jesse Owens won four gold medals, a result widely remembered as undercutting the regime's claims of Aryan racial superiority. The 1936 Games introduced the torch relay carrying the Olympic flame from Olympia, Greece, to the host city, a tradition that has continued at every Games since.
