FIFA is the global governing body of association football, founded 21 May 1904 in Paris by seven national federations. It is headquartered in Zurich and now counts 211 member national associations, more than the United Nations. FIFA administers the men's and women's World Cups and sets the Laws of the Game jointly with IFAB, including the 2018 rule permanently adopting video assistant referees. The 2015 corruption scandal exposed widespread bribery in broadcasting and sponsorship rights, leading to the indictment of multiple senior officials by United States prosecutors, and FIFA has more recently drawn scrutiny for awarding a peace prize to Donald Trump amid transparency concerns.
