AMA Supercross Championship

Motorsport Championships

The AMA Supercross Championship, sold commercially as Monster Energy AMA Supercross, is an American motorcycle racing series founded by the American Motorcyclist Association in 1974. Its races run from January through early May on constructed dirt tracks with steep jumps and obstacles, usually built inside sports stadiums, and the easy access to those venues helped supercross overtake outdoor motocross as a spectator attraction in the United States by the late 1970s. The idea grew out of the 1972 Super Bowl of Motocross at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. From 2002 until 2021 the series was the World Championship of the sport, and after it did not renew its contract with the FIM it joined the AMA Motocross Championship to form the SuperMotocross World Championship from 2023.
