The American Motorcyclist Association is an American nonprofit organization of more than 200,000 motorcyclists, founded in 1924. It campaigns for motorcyclists' legal rights and promotes the motorcycling lifestyle, and it advises clubs and promoters on running events and rallies. In competition the association sanctions over 2,000 events a year in the disciplines of Motocross, Off-Road and Track Racing, guided by a racing rule book voted on each year by the AMA Congress, and it hands out national awards at an annual banquet. It is the official national federation representative of the United States in the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, and so organises American teams and riders for FIM events such as the Motocross des Nations. It also maintains the Motorcycle Hall of Fame near Columbus, Ohio.
