Michael R. Bell, known as Mike Bell, was born on August 8, 1957 and died on January 25, 2021. He was an American professional motocross and mountain bike racer who competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1976 to 1983. He rode for the Yamaha factory racing team for his entire motocross career, winning the AMA Supercross Championship in 1980 and winning 20 AMA and Trans-AMA events. His motocross career ended in 1983 because of injuries, especially knee problems, and while coming back from knee surgery he took up bicycling to rebuild strength and went on to become a competitive mountain bike racer. He was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame in 2001 and died of a heart attack while mountain biking near his home.
