1960 Winter Olympics

Multi-Sport Games

The 1960 Winter Olympics were held in Squaw Valley, California, a ski resort with little existing infrastructure at the time it was awarded the Games, requiring extensive new construction. The Games introduced the first purpose-built Olympic Village for a Winter Games and the first use of computers to help tabulate results. Bobsled was dropped from the program because organizers declined to build a track, the only time the sport has been absent from the Winter Olympics since its introduction.
