Carol Heiss

Carol Elizabeth Heiss Jenkins is an American former figure skater and actress, born in 1940 in New York City, who won the gold medal in ladies' singles at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley after taking the silver medal at the 1956 Cortina d'Ampezzo Games. She was World Figure Skating Champion five consecutive years from 1956 through 1960, a dominant run described as unmatched since Sonja Henie, and in 1953 she became the first female skater to land a double Axel jump. After retiring from competition in 1960 she pursued an acting career and later became a figure skating coach in Ohio, training future champions including Timothy Goebel and Miki Ando.
