The Formula One World Championship is the highest class of worldwide single-seater racing, run by the Formula One Group and sanctioned by the FIA. It began in 1950 and is often regarded as the pinnacle of motorsport. A season is a series of Grands Prix held in many countries on purpose-built circuits or closed public roads, and a points system decides two annual titles, one for drivers and one for constructors. Each driver needs an FIA Super Licence and the circuits must hold the top Grade One rating. The commercial rights are leased to Liberty Media, which bought them in 2017 and added Grands Prix in Miami, Las Vegas, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Netherlands and Barcelona. Its cars generate high cornering speeds through aerodynamic downforce.
