The X Games are a series of action sports events founded by ESPN and broadcast on ESPN networks and ABC. The first X Games were held in the summer of 1995 in Providence and Newport in Rhode Island, and the events have since been staged in many parts of the world. They typically include skateboarding, BMX, freestyle motocross, skiing and snowboarding, with athletes competing for bronze, silver and gold medals as well as prize money. The competition is known for landmark tricks, among them Tony Hawk's 900 in skateboarding and Shaun White's Double McTwist 1260 in snowboarding. In late 2022 ESPN sold the property to the private equity firm MSP Sports Capital, and the events remain on ESPN and ABC.
