Team Europe is the European side in the Ryder Cup golf competition against the United States, formed in 1979 when the format expanded beyond a team representing only Great Britain and Ireland to include golfers from continental Europe. The change is widely credited with making the competition far more competitive against the historically dominant American side, and Team Europe has gone on to win the trophy repeatedly since the expansion, drawing its players from the European Tour.
