Teams and Clubs

Organized sports teams and clubs -- the collective competing units of organized sport, as distinct from the individual athletes who play for them -- spanning professional franchises, national representative teams, and historically or competitively notable amateur and collegiate clubs across every recognized sport. Belongs here: named teams and clubs such as Real Madrid, the New York Yankees, Manchester United, or the All Blacks national rugby team, filed as the organization that fields competitors under one identity across seasons. Does not belong here: individual athletes, filed under Athletes; the leagues, tournaments and individual contests those teams compete in, filed under Competitions and Games; the sports themselves, filed under Sports; and the administrative bodies that govern a sport rather than compete in it, such as FIFA or the IOC, filed under Governing Bodies.
