Sydney Swans

The Sydney Swans are an Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League and the women's team in the AFL Women's competition. The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne set up a junior club called the South Melbourne Football Club. It joined the Victorian Football Association in 1878 and the breakaway Victorian Football League as a founding member in 1897. It was first known as the Bloods for the red on its guernseys, adopted the swan emblem in 1933, and in 1982 became the first professional Australian football club to permanently relocate interstate. The Swans have won five VFL and AFL premierships, and they play their home matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
