Sepak takraw is a net sport from Southeast Asia played on a court similar to badminton, in which two teams use their feet, knees, chest and head, but not their hands or arms, to send a woven rattan or synthetic ball back over a net. The sport developed from traditional Southeast Asian kick-volleyball games and was codified with standardized rules in the 1960s, with the name combining the Malay word for kick and the Thai word for the woven ball. It is governed internationally by the International Sepaktakraw Federation and is a prominent event at the Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games, though it is not part of the Olympic program.
