Pickleball is a racket sport played on a badminton-sized court with a modified tennis net, in which players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball, combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The sport was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum, and it has grown rapidly in participation in the United States and internationally since the 2010s. It is governed internationally by the International Federation of Pickleball and is not part of the Olympic program.
