Australian Rugby League Commission

The Australian Rugby League Commission Limited, usually called the ARL and formerly the Australian Rugby Football League Limited, is the body that operates rugby league competitions in Australia. It was founded in 1986 and succeeded the Australian Rugby Football League Board of Control, which the New South Wales Rugby League and the Queensland Rugby League formed in 1924 to run the national team. Since its inception it has administered the Australian national team and represented Australia in international rugby league matters, and it now controls the National Rugby League, the NRL Women's Premiership and representative competitions such as the State of Origin series. A board of directors called a commission governs it from headquarters in Sydney, and its 19 shareholder members are the 17 NRL clubs plus the New South Wales and Queensland Rugby Leagues.
