Basic Role-Playing

Role-Playing Games

Basic Role-Playing, abbreviated BRP, is a tabletop role-playing game derived from the RuneQuest fantasy role-playing game. Chaosium released the BRP standalone booklet in 1980, inside the boxed set of the second edition of RuneQuest, and Greg Stafford and Lynn Willis are credited as its authors. The booklet set out a percentile, skill-based system that Chaosium then used as the basis for most of its games, including Call of Cthulhu, Stormbringer and Elfquest. Because so many Chaosium titles share its core rules, BRP is best understood as a common rules foundation for a family of games rather than a single setting.
