Thaddeus Teddy McCarthy (1965 to 2023) was an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer from Glanmire, County Cork, who played as a midfielder for both the Cork senior football and hurling teams. He is the only male dual player to win All-Ireland senior hurling and football medals in a single year, which he did in 1990. His football career, which began in 1985, brought two All-Ireland medals, six Munster medals and one All Star, and in the hurling team he won two All-Ireland medals, three Munster medals and a National Hurling League medal. After winning three All-Ireland Under-21 medals he made his senior championship debut in the 1986 All-Ireland final against Galway, which Cork won. At club level he played hurling with Sarsfields and football with Glanmire, and after retiring he coached and managed, including as manager of the Laois senior hurling team.
