Edward James Whitten Jr., born on 15 March 1957, is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League. As the son of Hall of Fame Legend Ted Whitten Sr., he carried heavy expectations from childhood and was tagged heavily in junior football solely because of his name. He debuted at his father club in 1974 at seventeen, after rumours that he might join South Melbourne, and although he could not match his father he became a very good player, representing Victoria in State of Origin and playing 144 games and kicking 133 goals between 1974 and 1982. A serious knee ligament injury ended his career in 1982, and he later helped set up the E.J. Whitten Legends Game, a charity match raising money for prostate cancer research.
