Seán O'Neill (born 1938) is a retired Irish Gaelic footballer from Newry, County Down. He played club football with John Mitchel GFC Newry and was a member of the Down senior inter-county team from the 1950s until the 1960s. He scored 85 goals and more than 500 points for Down and was a key figure in the county's All-Ireland victories of 1960, 1961 and 1968, one of only four Down men to win all three of those medals along with Joe Lennon, Dan McCartan and Paddy Doherty. His honours include eight Ulster senior medals, eight Railway Cup medals, three National League medals and six All Star awards, and he was Texaco Footballer of the Year in 1968. In 1984 he was named on the GAA's Football Team of the Century and in 2000 on its Team of the Millennium. A solicitor by profession, he later coached Down minors to the 1977 All-Ireland title and Queen's University Belfast to Sigerson Cup success.
