Nicole Uphoff

Nicole Uphoff, born January 25, 1967, in Duisburg, West Germany, is a German equestrian specializing in dressage who achieved extraordinary success in Olympic competition in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She won four Olympic gold medals across two Games: at the 1988 Seoul Olympics she captured gold in both individual and team dressage, and she repeated the feat at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, again winning both individual and team gold. Her rise was notably swift, beginning competition on her horse Rembrandt in 1987 and rising to the top of the dressage world within a short span due to the horse's elegance and expression in the ring; she also won titles at the World Equestrian Games and European Dressage Championships, becoming a pioneering figure in the sport.
