Cirillo "Nello" Pagani was an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and Formula One driver, born in Milan on 11 October 1911 and died in Bresso on 19 October 2003. He raced for a long career from 1928 to 1955 and became the first 125cc World Champion in the inaugural 1949 season. That year he came close to a double title: in the 500cc class he scored more points than Les Graham on an AJS but, with only the best three scores counting over six rounds, finished officially as runner-up. He won the Pau Grand Prix in 1947 and 1948 in cars and started one Formula One World Championship race, the 1950 Swiss Grand Prix, finishing seventh. Later he managed the MV Agusta team and was the father of the racer Alberto Pagani.
