Mick Doohan is an Australian former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from the Gold Coast, Queensland, who won five consecutive 500 cc World Championships between 1994 and 1998. He raced in Australian Superbikes in the late 1980s, made his Grand Prix debut for Honda on an NSR 500 two-stroke in 1989 and took his first victory late in the 1990 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix. A practice crash before the 1992 Dutch TT left him with serious damage to his right leg while he was leading the championship, yet he returned to dominate the class, winning twelve of fifteen races in 1997. In 1996 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to motor racing.
