Matti Nykanen was a Finnish ski jumper who lived from 1963 to 2019, born in Jyvaskyla, widely regarded as one of the most successful ski jumpers of all time. He won four Olympic gold medals and one silver across the 1984 Sarajevo and 1988 Calgary Winter Games, captured four overall World Cup titles tying the all-time record among men, and set five world distance records over his career, remaining the only male five-time ski flying world record holder in the sport's history.
