Maria Mutola

Maria de Lurdes Mutola, born on 27 October 1972, is a retired Mozambican track and field athlete who specialised in the 800 metres. She is only the fourth female track and field athlete to compete at six Olympic Games, and she is a three-time world champion in the event and a one-time Olympic champion. Although she never broke the world record in her favourite event, many track insiders and fans regard her as one of the greatest female 800 metres runners of all time, thanks to consistent performances in major championships and exceptional longevity, competing at the highest level for two decades before retiring in 2008 at the age of 35. She is the only athlete to have won Olympic, World, World indoor, Commonwealth Games, Continental Games and Continental Championships titles in the same event, and she is the main coach and mentor of Caster Semenya.
