Klaus Balkenhol

Klaus Balkenhol (born 6 December 1939 in Velen) is a German dressage rider and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in team dressage at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona with the German team, and received a second team gold medal with Germany in 1996. Before his competitive career his riding was as a mounted policeman. He later coached the United States Olympic equestrian team, and he is the author of several books on dressage. The source describes him as an avid member of Xenophon and, like Philippe Karl, a petitioner against the use of rollkur, a contested head-down riding method.
