Johnny Moss

John Moss was an American professional poker player who lived from 1907 to 1995, born in Marshall, Texas, and raised in Dallas, regarded as a pioneering figure in competitive poker. He was elected the first World Series of Poker Main Event champion by his peers in 1970 and won the tournament format twice more, in 1971 and 1974, and he accumulated nine WSOP bracelets, a record he held until Johnny Chan surpassed it in 2005. A charter inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1979, he competed at every World Series of Poker from 1970 through 1995 and was a lifelong traveling professional gambler known for high stakes games including the 1950s Odessa, Texas oil boom games.
