Johnny Cecotto

Motorsport

Johnny Alberto Cecotto Persello, born on 25 January 1956, is a Venezuelan former professional racer on motorcycles and in cars. He became a prodigy in 1975, when at the age of 19 he was the youngest motorcycle road racing world champion. Injuries and mechanical problems then limited his success in the Grand Prix paddock, and at 24 he turned to auto racing, reaching Formula One and later becoming a successful touring car driver. He is described as the last of a select group, which includes John Surtees and Mike Hailwood, who competed at the highest level in both motorcycle and auto racing.
