Motorsport

Joey Dunlop, whose full name was William Joseph Dunlop, was a Northern Irish road racing motorcyclist from Ballymoney in County Antrim, born on 25 February 1952. He ranks second on the list of all-time winners at the Isle of Man TT Races, with 26 wins that include three hat-tricks, and he also won the Ulster Grand Prix 24 times. In 1986 he took a fifth consecutive TT Formula One world title. He received the MBE in 1986 for services to the sport and the OBE in 1996 for delivering clothing and food to orphanages in Romania, Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He died on 2 July 2000 while leading a race in Tallinn, Estonia. A readers' vote in 2015 named him Northern Ireland's greatest sports star, and the Joey Dunlop Cup is awarded to the most successful rider at each TT.
