James Downing, known as Jim (1946 to 28 April 2012), was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. Born in Urhan, County Cork, he first played competitive football in his youth, joined the Cork minor team at seventeen and later played under-21 and junior football for the county. He made his senior debut during the 1967 championship and was a regular member of the panel for several years, winning one Munster medal as a non-playing substitute and finishing as an All-Ireland runner-up once. He made just two championship appearances for Cork and left the panel after the 1970 championship. At club level he won a Munster club title and a Cork Senior Football Championship in 1967 with the divisional side Beara, and he won an Intermediate Football Championship in 1967 and numerous other championship medals with his home club Urhan.
