John Francis Shouldice, born in Ballaghaderreen, County Mayo, on 12 March 1882 and died on 15 February 1965, was an Irish Gaelic footballer, revolutionary, Gaelic games administrator and civil servant. His championship career at senior level with the London and Dublin county teams spanned sixteen seasons from 1901 until 1916. One of twelve children, he emigrated to London in 1899 and won four successive county senior championship medals with the Hibernians club between 1901 and 1904, before moving to Dublin in 1906 for a post in the Department of Agriculture and winning four more county medals with Geraldine's. He played in three successive All-Ireland finals without success between 1901 and 1903, then won the All-Ireland title with Dublin in 1908, becoming the first Mayo-born player to claim a winners' medal, and played on until 1916 alongside his brother Frank.
