Henri Chammartin, born July 30, 1918, and died May 30, 2011, at age 92, was a Swiss dressage rider whose most significant achievement came at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, where he won individual dressage gold. He had an exceptionally long Olympic career, becoming, alongside fellow equestrian Gustav Fischer, the second Swiss sportsperson to compete at five Olympic Games (1952 through 1968), and across that span he won five Olympic medals in all, one gold, two silver and two bronze, across individual and team dressage. At the European Dressage Championships he won five medals including two individual golds, in 1963 and 1965; on his death the International Equestrian Federation described him as a legend of the dressage world.
