Gert Fridolf Fredriksson was a Swedish sprint canoeist, born November 21, 1919, and died July 5, 2006. He competed at four Summer Olympics between 1948 and 1960 and won eight Olympic medals, including six golds, across kayak single and double events at distances from 1000 to 10000 meters. He remains the most successful Swede in Olympic history by gold medal count and is widely regarded as the most successful male canoeist ever, having also won medals at Swedish, Nordic and World championships between 1942 and 1960.
