Motorsport

Garry McCoy, born on 18 April 1972 in Sydney, is an Australian former professional motorcycle racer who won races in the 125cc and 500cc World Championships as well as in the Superbike World Championship. He is known for an oversteering, sideways riding style that earned him the nickname the Slide King. In his late teens he rode speedway in New South Wales, and in 1992 he started his first 125cc world championship races only four months after his first road race. He won the 1995 Malaysian and Australian Grands Prix, then moved to the premier 500cc class in 1998 and in 2000 opened the season with a surprise win at the South African Grand Prix for WCM, adding wins in Portugal and Valencia to finish fifth in the championship. He later rode for Kawasaki, took a Superbike World Championship win for NCR Ducati at Phillip Island and ran a wildcard in the 2006 MotoGP season.
