Eddie Lawson is an American former professional motorcycle racer from Upland, California, who competed in the Grand Prix world championships from 1981 to 1992 and won four FIM 500cc world titles. He was the first competitor to win back-to-back 500cc championships on machines from two different manufacturers, and his habit of finishing races and scoring points earned him the nickname Steady Eddie. After winning the AMA Superbike Series in 1981 and 1982 for Kawasaki he joined Yamaha as Kenny Roberts' teammate in 1983, took his first world title in 1984 and won the 1986 Daytona 200. He entered the MotoGP Legends Hall of Fame in 2005 and later raced in Indy Lights and CART.
