Dieter Thoma

Dieter Thoma, born on 19 October 1969, is a former West German and German ski jumper who was the second best German ski jumper of his time after Jens Weißflog. His uncle Georg Thoma was a world and Olympic champion in the Nordic combined. Thoma won the Four Hills Tournament in 1990 and the Ski-flying World Championships in Vikersund at the end of the 1989-90 season. Before the 1993-94 season he changed from parallel skis to the V-style, and he was part of the German team that won the team competition at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, where he also took individual normal hill bronze. He won team large hill silver at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and a bronze at the 1998 Ski-Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf. He won five FIS Nordic World Ski Championships medals, including team large hill gold in 1999, and retired after the 1998/99 season.
