Deon Thomas, born on February 24, 1971, is an American-Israeli former basketball player. As a high school player he led his team to the Chicago Public League title and was named Illinois Mr. Basketball. At the University of Illinois he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Fighting Illini. The Dallas Mavericks selected him with the 28th pick of the 1994 NBA draft, but he chose to build his professional career in Europe and Israel instead. His path shows how a standout college scorer could pursue a long career outside the NBA.
