Colin Edwards II is an American former professional motorcycle racer, born in Conroe, Texas, on 27 February 1974 and nicknamed the Texas Tornado, who retired half-way through the 2014 season. He is a double World Superbike champion and competed in the MotoGP class from 2003 to 2014. His Australian father, an amateur racer himself, put him on a minibike at the age of three, and he won dozens of junior motocross races in the 50cc to 80cc categories before turning to road racing in 1991. He was undefeated in every amateur event he entered that year and turned professional before the 1992 season, when he won five of nine races and the AMA 250cc National Series title ahead of Kenny Roberts, Jr. He then rode for Vance and Hines on a Yamaha in the AMA Superbike Championship in 1993 and 1994.
