Maria Cecilia Rognoni is a retired Argentine field hockey defender, born December 1, 1976, in Buenos Aires, who earned 231 caps for the Argentine national team between 1994 and 2004, and again in 2010. She won the 2002 World Cup in Perth, Australia, where she was elected best woman hockey player in the world by the FIH, an Olympic silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Games, an Olympic bronze at the 2004 Athens Games, and gold at the 2001 Champions Trophy and the 1999 and 2003 Pan American Games. She was separated from the national team in 2005 after speaking about selection practices, returned in 2010 under coach Carlos Retegui, and eventually left due to knee injuries.
