Carl Bonde

Count Carl Gustaf Bonde af Bjorno, born April 28, 1872, in Morko, Stockholm, Sweden, and died June 13, 1957, at Horningsholm Castle, was a Swedish army officer, equerry and horse rider who competed at the 1912 and 1928 Olympics. His most significant sporting accomplishment came at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, where he won the gold medal in the individual dressage competition riding his horse Emperor, the first Olympic individual dressage title ever awarded. At the 1928 Amsterdam Games he won a silver medal as part of the Swedish team dressage squad and finished 19th in the individual dressage event riding a horse named Ingo. Beyond athletics he had a distinguished military and court career in the Life Regiment Hussars, rising to cavalry captain in the reserve, and served as Equerry of the Swedish royal court from 1909 and Crown Equerry from 1916.
