Birgit Fischer is a German former kayaker who won eight Olympic gold medals across six different Olympic Games, a record for the discipline that she shares with Aladar Gerevich and Isabell Werth. She competed across seven Olympiads in total, twice for East Germany and four times for reunified Germany, and holds the distinction of being both the youngest and the oldest Olympic canoeing champion in history. She was named German sportswoman of the year in 2004.
