John Bolton (weightlifter)

Gymnastics and Strength Sports

John Bolton is a New Zealand weightlifter, born John Arthur Bolton on 22 June 1945 in Auckland. He is listed at 175 cm and 90 kg and lifted for the Auckland Weightlifting Association. He competed at two Summer Olympics. At the 1968 Games he took part in the light-heavyweight class for men and finished sixteenth, and at the 1972 Games he entered the middle-heavyweight class but did not finish. His strongest results came at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, where Olympedia lists him with two silver medals: in the light-heavyweight class (82.5 kg) at Edinburgh in 1970 and in the heavyweight class (over 82.5 kg) at Christchurch in 1974. The name is shared with other public figures, so the weightlifter is identified by his sport.
