Abner Mares

Abner Mares Martínez, born on 28 November 1985 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, is a Mexican-American professional boxer who also works as a boxing analyst and commentator for Showtime. He grew up in Hawaiian Gardens, California, and holds dual citizenship with Mexico and the United States. As an amateur he represented Mexico, taking gold at the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games and silver at the 2003 Pan American Games, and he boxed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens as a bantamweight. As a professional he won the IBF bantamweight title, the WBC super bantamweight title and the WBC featherweight title, and also held the WBA regular featherweight title from 2016 to 2018. His bantamweight bouts included a draw with Yonnhy Perez and a win over Vic Darchinyan in a four-man tournament, and he lost a rematch to Leo Santa Cruz in June 2018.
