Bundesliga

Professional Leagues

The Bundesliga is the top professional association football league in Germany and the highest level of the German football league system. Eighteen teams compete in it, linked by promotion and relegation to the 2. Bundesliga, and seasons run from August to May with games on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It was founded in 1962 in Dortmund, with the first season beginning in 1963 to 1964, and the German Football Association ran it until the Deutsche Fussball Liga took over in 2001. All Bundesliga clubs also take part in the DFB-Pokal cup, and the league winner qualifies for the DFL-Supercup.
