Twilight: 2000
Role-Playing Games
Twilight: 2000 is a post-apocalyptic military role-playing game published in 1984 by Game Designers' Workshop and designed by Frank Chadwick. It is set in the aftermath of a limited third world war, called the Twilight War, in which the armies of the East and West have fought to exhaustion across central Europe. The player characters are the survivors of a military unit that has lost contact with its commanders and any wish to carry on the fight, so the game turns on staying alive, finding food and spare parts, and deciding whether to try to get home or to settle as protectors of a group of survivors. Its rules stress military realism rather than heroic adventure, and the tone is deliberately bleak. A much expanded second edition appeared in 1990 and a revised edition in 1993, and several related games and sourcebooks followed from the same setting.
